NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated early Sunday morning that several suspects opened fire at the Taste of the City lounge, which is situated off Franklin Avenue in the Crown Heights neighborhood, at approximately 3:30 a.m.

According to the commissioner, victims were between the ages of 19 and 61. The youngest, a male 19-year-old, passed away immediately. In Brooklyn, two other men, ages 27 and 35, were declared deceased at local hospitals.

The commissioner initially stated that 11 persons had been shot during the nocturnal fighting. Eric Adams verified that a 12th person had been hit during a press conference between the mayor and top NYPD officials just before 12 p.m. He begged people to come forward if they knew anything about the shooting.

“Your assistance is needed. If you were inside the club, heard people discussing the shooting, or saw someone leaving the area, any of the information can help us piece together the crime’s solution,” Mayor Adams stated.

According to the commissioner, a fight at the packed club sparked the shooting. She stated that on Sunday morning, police found a handgun in a nearby street and recovered at least 42 shot casings from the lounge. Police investigators have yet to establish a direct connection between the gun and the nightclub shooting.

“As far as we can tell, the shooting was caused by a fight that broke out within the packed club. Tisch stated, “We think that this incident involved up to four shooters.”

At the news conference at 12 p.m., the commissioner stated that the shooting seemed to be gang-related, but no one was in arrest. She went on to say that gangs are responsible for 60% of shootings in the city.

Tisch said that some of the people who were shot were also victims of the violence that occurred overnight.

The shooting occurs during a year with record-low gun violence in NYC.

Seven months into the year, we have the fewest shooting incidences and gunshot casualties in the history of the city of New York,” she remarked. This is obviously an aberration, thank God, and it’s a horrible event that happened this morning, but we’re going to look into it and find out what happened.
