Thieves use SUV to steal ATM in brazen downtown L.A. daytime heist

Two men stole an ATM downtown Thursday in broad daylight, and Los Angeles police are searching for them.

The incident, which happened close to MariGold Dresses on Olympic Boulevard and Santee Street, was captured on camera, according to KTLA.

About an hour ago, in broad daylight, a white SUV driven by a masked person and a second masked passenger parked the car onto a sidewalk in front of a business and took an ATM, according to a social media post from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Customers watched as the males backed their car onto the sidewalk adjacent to the business, Zoila Barrales, the store’s owner, said KTLA.

We had clients. She mentioned that a family with a young girl was present. They were ordered to go inside by my staff. Because you can never be sure, they placed all of the customers in the fitting rooms.

After the SUV backed into the store, a man wearing all black and wearing a black face mask entered, got back in, and drove away, according to the video.

“The incident has further strained nerves, especially in light of the recent wave of vandalism that hit downtown due to protests and ongoing immigration raids,” Barrales added.

She told KTLA, “Honestly, with everything that’s going on, this just adds a little bit more to the fear that people have right now.”

In order to identify the culprits, detectives are searching for any evidence.

The agency posted on social media that anyone with surveillance or cellphone footage should contact Central Division Robbery Detectives.
