Authorities claimed that on Wednesday morning, a bus carrying at least 20 people struck a pair of railroad lines and flipped over off Sierra Highway in Lancaster, landing the bus on its side.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department reported that first responders flew one passenger out and sent two others to the hospital. 16 people did not require emergency ambulance transfer, while one person was listed as being in critical condition.
The California Highway Patrol reported the collision at 11:17 a.m. close to North Sierra Highway and West Avenue C. Traffic in both directions of the highway seemed to be closed as of 1 p.m., and firefighters arrived on the scene just before 11:30 a.m.
According to KNBC, the bus overturned after losing control and colliding with the tracks.
According to the station, Union Pacific and Metrolink were informed by the city of Lancaster that the collision seemed to have damaged the tracks.
In an afternoon social media post, Metrolink stated that it did not anticipate the incident to affect service, despite the fact that the mishap occurred close to railroad tracks.
The cause of the collision is still being looked into.
