Rich’s Ice Cream Co. has issued a recall of more than 100,000 products due to potential listeria monocytogenes contamination.
The
Food and Drug Administration
announced the recall on July 17 with select products of the Florida-based ice cream company at risk.

Listeria infection is the third leading cause of death from foodborne illness in the United States, according to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
, and is rare but serious.
The recall, which includes a total of 110,292 possible cases, impacts lot number 24351 through lot 25156 and is classified as a “Class II” case. A Class II recall, according to the
FDA
, is “a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

Ten products distributed to numerous states include the following: Chocolate Crunch Cake Bars, Strawberry Shortcake Bars, Rich Bars, Crumbled Cookie Bars, Orange Cream Bars, Fudge Frenzy Bars, Cotton Candy Twirl Bars, Savagely Sour Blue Raspberry Bars, Savagely Sour Cherry Bars and Cool Watermelon Bars.
Twenty-three states, including Florida, may have been affected due to the product’s distribution pattern: Alabama, Arizona, California, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Nassau, the capital of The Bahamas, may also have impacted cases.
Rich Ice Cream Co. has not yet detailed possible solutions for affected customers.
