At 68-52, the NL West rivals were tied for first place after Jo Adell’s game-winning single. May 10 was the last time the Padres were tied for first place. Was August or September the last time they held at least a portion of the division lead? Back on September 25, 2010.

Early last month, the Dodgers led the Padres by 8.5 games. Now that they have a 12-20 record over their previous 32 games, that cushion is gone. The Padres, who have won 13 of their last 16 games, have heated up as they have cooled.
The NL West is up for grabs with 42 games left. Over the next twelve days, one team will have an opportunity to make a move. Over the next two weekends, the Padres and Dodgers will play each other, with Dodger Stadium hosting the first three games. Then, starting on August 22, they will square off at Petco Park.
