The full statement of Patrick Divver, the head of the local ICE office for operations control and extraction in San Diego, is included below:
This is another instance of misinformed activists who are unaware of the scope and/or do not comprehend the legal measures being applied by the law, which leads to them putting themselves, the community, and our agents at unnecessary risk. These actions hinder our ability to expel those who pose a threat to public safety and aid in the dissemination of information that everyone involved is concerned about.
The San Diego ICE agents carried out an application of the law against Yohan D. Az, an illegal alien from Mexico with criminal history that included child abuse, assault with a firearm, assault on an official, obstruction of a public servant, vandalism, and driving under the influence of alcohol. When the agents decided to detain D az, they encountered the interference of public members who were introduced in an unwarranted and unnecessary manner in the area of law enforcement. He violently resisted the arrest and continued to act so aggressively that the agents were forced to completely restrain him, including his limbs, in order to protect both their safety and the public’s. D az is under ICE custody while awaiting an expulsion procedure.
“The second individual, Limber Hernndez-Verudgo, was detained and is currently under ICE custody pending an expulsion process. He is an illegal Mexican immigrant who entered the United States illegally in violation of federal law.
“ICE San Diego mantiene su compromiso de hacer cumplir la ley federal de inmigraci n, al tiempo que garantiza la seguridad de la comunidad y de nuestros agentes” .
