When the car veered to the right onto the south sidewalk while the man was traveling east at a high speed on Carmel Valley Road, he lost control and crossed the eastbound lanes onto the center median, according to O’Brien.

According to the officer, the Civic struck a tree before continuing into westbound lanes and colliding with an 18-year-old man’s Accord.

According to O’Brien, the Civic driver suffered many fractures and potentially fatal head damage after being ejected from his vehicle. Both drivers were transported by ambulance to hospitals.

He claimed that alcohol played a role in the collision.
