In addition to smartphones, several tech companies believe that wearables—more especially, glasses—will be the next big thing in computing. In China, Quark, which was revamped this year, is now accessible as an app. Alibaba is entering the hardware market in an effort to expand the app’s distribution.

Alibaba’s response to Meta’s smart glasses, which were created in partnership with Ray-Ban, are the Quark AI Glasses. The Chinese internet behemoth will now face off against Xiaomi, a Chinese consumer electronics company that unveiled its own AI glasses this year.

According to Alibaba, their glasses would be able to do hands-free calls, stream music, translate languages in real time, and record meetings. A built-in camera is another feature of the eyewear.

Alibaba offers a variety of services in China, including online travel agencies and maps. The popular Alipay mobile service is also operated by its affiliate Ant Group. Alibaba stated that customers will be able to compare prices on Taobao, its China e-commerce platform, pay with Alipay, and utilize a navigation service through the glasses.

Other information, such the cost and technical requirements, has not yet been disclosed by the company.
