American hiker missing in Spain is found dead

Rescuers discovered the body of a 27-year-old American hiker who vanished about a month ago, Spanish police reported on Tuesday.

According to authorities, a group of rescuers discovered Cole Henderson’s body in the mountain range that runs along Spain’s border with France, Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park.

Days after he was scheduled to return to his Netherlands home, Henderson was reported missing on July 14, according to authorities. On July 9, before starting his journey, the 27-year-old parked his car in the adjacent hamlet of Torla.

According to the police, Henderson’s body was discovered “after a fall of about 200 meters, in a difficult-to-access area on the north face of Monte Perdido, in the municipality of Bielsa.”

In an effort to find Henderson, Spanish authorities said they sent out multiple teams of search rescuers, canine handlers, search dogs, and drone pilots.
