Buffalo Bill’s Resort prepares for final rodeo as casino is set to close amid Primm’s struggles

Generations of Angelenos and other motorists traveling into Nevada on the 15 Freeway were enticed by the enormous rainbow-colored hat perched atop a bison.

Although it was only forty minutes north, Buffalo Bill’s Resort and Casino offered gaming, drinking, neon lights, and entertainment without the costs and crowds of Sin City.

Primm Valley Resorts, the company that runs Buffalo Bill’s on the Primm desert strip at the California-Nevada border, announced that the resort would soon close, marking the end of an era.

In a press release on Tuesday afternoon, Buffalo Bill’s announced that it will be moving its 24/7 operations to Primm Valley casino & Casino, the sibling casino next to Buffalo Bill’s, in order to provide the greatest experience for today’s guests.

Buffalo Bills will continue to hold concerts and other special events at its Star of the Desert Arena, according to Primm Valley, which is owned by Affinity Gaming.

The hotel’s closing date was not disclosed by the company. On Monday night, Vegas Advantage, a Las Vegas insider, broke the news.

In this struggle near the California border, which pitted two dusty rest sites against the hearts and dollars of the 14,000 automobiles that pass by each day on their way to Las Vegas, the two sides were rather closely matched.

The Primm Valley website and other sellers allow Buffalo Bill’s hotel reservations, although they do not display rooms as available after Sunday. Visitors are referred to Primm Valley Resort if they attempt to make reservations at Buffalo Bill’s for after Sunday.

What would happen to Buffalo Bill’s employees was not mentioned in Primm Valley’s release.

Located in the unincorporated village of State Line, Clark County, the resort was the last of three constructed by the Primm family.

Primm Valley opened in 1990, Buffalo Bill’s in 1994, and Whiskey Pete’s, which closed in December, was the first to open.

When it was opened, the hotel had 592 rooms (the Bellagio has around 4,000 rooms), but it later added 1,242 rooms.

Buffalo Bill’s used attractions and low costs to draw customers.

Just outside the resort was the Desperado roller coaster, which, when it debuted in 1994, was the fastest and tallest coaster in the world, sending guests screaming 209 feet above the road.

Perhaps the most well-known features of the famous Mirage resort were its 54-foot artificial volcano, magicians Siegfried and Roy, white tigers, and dolphins.

In its first year, the Captain & Tennille were among the big artists that performed at the Star of the Desert Arena. According to the Las Vegas Sun, it also signed Snoop Dogg, Aretha Franklin, and Reba McEntire in 2009.

That year, The Sun said that the hotel also provided customers who sought a taste of classic Las Vegas with $25 performances, $7 prime rib dinners, and $2 beers.

Like all Primm hotels, Buffalo Bill’s struggled to draw guests after briefly closing in March 2020 due to the pandemic and reopening in December 2022.

Videos of empty gaming floors and retailers in the Primm Outlet Mall were uploaded by visitors.

Information about the fate of the Desperado and hotel attractions, including the renowned Bonnie & Clyde V-8 Ford that the outlaws were riding in when they were shot dead, were not provided by Primm Valley.

The last casino standing is where Affinity Gaming hopes to draw customers.

According to their note, we cordially invite our guests to Primm Valley, where they may enjoy the newest slots on our renovated casino floor, exquisitely furnished suites, an oasis pool, and fantastic food.
