A 33-year-old male was taken into custody by Carlsbad police on Saturday in relation to a two-vehicle collision in which the other driver was murdered.
According to a news release from the Carlsbad Police Department, police were dispatched to the junction of La Costa Avenue and Piraeus Street at 5:20 a.m. on Saturday in response to a traffic collision.

A Nissan pickup truck and a Subaru crossover collided, according to the police. “The driver and sole occupant of the Nissan was transported from the scene and later pronounced deceased at a local hospital.”
The Subaru driver, Oceanside resident Philip Webb, 33, was taken into custody by police on suspicion of driving under the influence, “causing injury or death and vehicular manslaughter,” according to officials.

Webb will be put into the Vista county jail, the CPD said.
In order to notify the victim’s next of kin, authorities suppressed the victim’s identify. There was no description of the individual.
According to the police, alcohol “is suspected to be a contributing factor” in the crash, which is still being investigated.
