Los Angeles County’s county counsel is Dawyn Harrison.
Re: The justice changes implemented by LA County were revoked. A unstable electorate would be necessary to restore them.
Greenes, RobertThe significance of Measure Jrightly is emphasized in a recent column. But I disagree with the seemingly sweeping blame placed on the Los Angeles County Counsel’s Office, which flagrantly ignores the issue’s straightforward cause: the previous Executive Office’s failure to update the county charter in Municipal Code, the website that houses and codifies municipal laws across the country, to reflect Measure J.
This oversight has been acknowledged by Edward Yen, the current executive officer.
At every stage, the County Counsel’s Office adhered to protocol. All court decisions regarding Measure J were communicated to the previous executive office. We complied with the Board of Supervisors’ directives to use the 2000 proposed charter amendment and the charter as it appears in Municode while drafting Measure G.
Over the past four years, our office has handled more than 10,000 cases. It is not only implausible, but it also compromises legal procedures to imply that attorneys should rely on their memories rather than the official charter record.
Making fun of our office is untrue and creates a risky precedent.
