The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department issued an advisory after smash-and-grab burglaries in East County increased.
The SDSO reports that the burglars are using tools like sledgehammers to smash down glass doors and windows of small eateries, bars, and retail establishments after hours.

The burglaries had such an impact that SDSO issued a statement alerting small business owners to the series, even though the names and number of targeted firms were not made public.
In its advisory, the sheriff’s department stated that “even when suspects leave empty-handed, these crimes are typically fast, destructive, and costly.”

Small businesses were advised by the SDSO to utilize surveillance cameras to keep an eye on their property, secure their entrance points, and install an alarm system. According to the organization, owners of businesses should restrict who has access to alarm codes and keys.
