El Cajon police say DNA may hold the key to identifying woman in 1998 cold case

In an effort to obtain answers to the unexplained death of an unnamed lady whose body was discovered in a patch of brush in eastern San Diego County almost thirty years ago, authorities on Tuesday appealed to the public for assistance.

According to authorities, the woman was discovered dead on August 13, 1998, in the 1300 block of Avocado Avenue in El Cajon. She may have been in her 30s. The body was adorned with a blue T-shirt that said “Woodruff Warriors 20 Year Reunion 1971-1991,” black shoes, and a silver herringbone bracelet.

According to the El Cajon Police Department, she was a brunette who weighed around 110 pounds and was about 5 feet 2 inches tall. According to ECPD officials, DNA testing has shown that the woman has genealogical roots in Michoacan, Mexico, and may have had a family in the San Diego area.

Police have not revealed why they suspect the lady was murdered, but they have produced a representation of what the woman is thought to have looked like while she was alive.
