Below is the complete statement from Patrick Divver, the San Diego field office director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations:
Another instance of uneducated activists who are putting themselves, the neighborhood, and our police at needless risk because they are unaware of the scope and/or comprehension of the legitimate enforcement measures occurring. These acts make it more difficult for us to get rid of people who harm public safety and spread false information that puts everyone at risk.
“Yohan Diaz, an illegal alien from Mexico with a criminal past that includes child abuse, assault with a lethal weapon, battery on a peace officer, obstruction of a public official, vandalism, and DUI, was the subject of a targeted enforcement effort by ICE San Diego officers. Members of the public interfered with officers’ efforts to apprehend Diaz by forcing themselves into a law enforcement situation in a hazardous and unnecessary manner. In order to ensure the safety of both cops and the public, Diaz forcefully resisted arrest and became so hostile that officers had to thoroughly restrain him, including binding his legs. Diaz is being held by ICE while the removal process is ongoing.
“The second person was also detained and is currently in ICE detention undergoing removal procedures. He is Limber Hernandez-Verudgo, a Mexican illegal alien who entered the United States illegally in violation of federal law.
“ICE San Diego is still dedicated to upholding federal immigration law while protecting our personnel and the community.
