A suspect in a series of minor brush fires in Oceanside’s Loma Alta area was taken into custody by authorities on Saturday.
The suspect was taken into custody around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday “while in the act of setting a fire,” according to a news release from the Oceanside police and fire departments, who did not publicly name them.

Officials noted that both departments looked into the fires, which were thought to have been started on purpose northwest of the intersection of Oceanside Boulevard and El Camino Real.
The information under evaluation was “related to 14 separate fires that began on or around July 30, 2025.”

According to officials, investigators scouted the region because of the pattern and close vicinity of the fires.
Authorities further stated, “At this time, investigators believe the suspect acted alone.”
