Photos: Getty Villa reopens

Published On:

For the first time since the tragic Palisades fire in January, the Getty Villa reopened on Friday. Additionally, the museum will launch a new display after almost six months without visitors. Since the Palisades fire ravaged the neighborhood on January 7, the Villa has been closed. The grounds of the museum were damaged in the fire, but the museum itself was unaffected. Since then, workers have been trying to fix the grounds’ damage as soon as they can. More than 230 pieces of Messenian art and antiques are on display at the Villa’s newest exhibit, The Kingdom of Pylos, which opened to celebrate the reopening. In the United States, many of the pieces are being viewed for the first time. It was anticipated that Friday’s reopening would draw large crowds. The Villa will only be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday through Monday.
