Dickens responded that the investigation is still in its early phases and that he was unable to provide further details regarding a potential motive when asked if it was thought that the shooter targeted the CDC.
He described the suspect as a well-known individual who might be interested in particular topics, which I am unable to confirm at this time with any degree of certainty until the inquiry is finished.
According to officials, the investigation into the incident is being led by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
What have officials said?
The shooting, the second in the state in a week, was condemned by Governor Brian Kemp.
Referring to a shooting at the Army installation Fort Stewart two days prior, Kemp stated on X that “innocent Georgians have been the target of deranged criminals twice this week.”
As a reminder of how important first responders are, he commended the courageous individuals who raced to the scene to apprehend the shooter and preserve lives.
In addition to those injured this evening close to the CDC Center, we ask that you join us in praying for them, he stated.
U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock, a Democrat from Georgia, said he was keeping an eye on the shooting and praying for the deceased officer as well as all of the professors and students.
Warnock commented on X, “I am heartbroken that our community is experiencing yet another tragedy of gun violence.”

On X, Patel urged people to pray for the hero’s friends, family, and coworkers who gave the ultimate sacrifice and moved swiftly to protect others.
According to Dickens, the type of gun violence that broke out on Friday indicates that a national dialogue on gun violence is necessary.
Dickens stated that active shooter situations and mass shootings shouldn’t become commonplace.
Second shooting in Georgia in one week
The shooting on Friday occurs two days after an active-duty soldier injured five service members at Fort Stewart before being taken down by a group of onlookers, according to officials.
According to Brig. Gen. John Lubas, commanding commander of the 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield, Quornelius Radford, 28, an automated logistics sergeant, is suspected of firing a personal weapon on Wednesday before being arrested.
The deceased were reportedly Radford’s coworkers at the installation, which is 40 miles southwest of Savannah, though their identities were not made public.
Lubas said Thursday that the release of three of the five injured individuals from the hospital was “amazing considering the circumstances and the ranges of which they were engaged.”
According to Lubas, the two who are still in the hospital should get well.
According to Lubas, the reason behind the shooting was unclear.
According to former coworkers, Radford was bullied for his stammer almost immediately after enlisting in the military.
