Suspect in deadly Montana bar shooting has been captured, officials say

Authorities reported Friday that a Montana man who was suspected of shooting four people dead at a pub has been apprehended following a week-long manhunt.

According to the Montana Department of Justice, 45-year-old Michael Paul Brown was arrested Friday around 2:00 p.m. close to a location in Anaconda that police had been seeking.

In a statement, Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen stated, “I am proud of the relentless law enforcement effort this week to find and arrest Michael Paul Brown.” “The support we ve seen for the community of Anaconda from across the state and the nation has also been remarkable.”

Brown is accused of entering the Owl Barn next door to his Anaconda house and shooting, according to the Montana Department of Justice, which prompted a manhunt for him on August 1.

Three customers and the bartender were killed.

The four victims were named by Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen as Tony Wayne Palm, 74; David Allen Leach, 70; Nancy Lauretta Kelley, 64; and Daniel Edwin Baillie, 59.

They were all Anaconda natives.

Having grown up in Anaconda with Brown, Shane Charles, the proprietor of another tavern, claimed that Brown battled PTSD.

According to the U.S. Army, Brown was in the Montana National Guard from 2006 to 2009, served in the Army from 2001 to 2005, and was stationed in Iraq from 2004 to 2005.

Clare Boyle, Brown’s niece, claimed that her uncle battled mental health problems.

The shooting’s motivation is unknown.
