Trump declared in early April that the United States would apply a 10% blanket tariff rate almost everywhere and higher customized tariffs of up to 50% for dozens of nations.
Trump put a 90-day hold on the higher tariff rates, which were scheduled to resume on July 9, following days of anxiety and bewilderment among investors and foreign leaders.
Two days prior to the deadline, Trump signed an executive order postponing it until August 1. He had previously stated that he had no intention of extending that deadline.
